Vector 5 · Excellence and Sustainability Speaks at the RTD7 in Barcelona

  • These two experts will discuss the Responsible Tourist Destination model, drawn from the development of Socially Responsible Territories within the tourism sector. 

Social responsibility is a business approach that seeks to develop a more competitive enterprises from sustainability in all five vectors: economic, environmental, social, labor and good government, and creating confidence in stakeholders by means of it. Therefore, the methodology give great emphasis on the commitments, integration, dialogue with stakeholders, and accountability.

The need to differentiate themselves from other destinations requires leading a tourism model committed to the region and to the social, environmental, labor challenges... This differentiation strategy is appropriate to most tourist areas, either with family, industrial, cultural, sport and events, or wine tourism.

Vector 5 is leading an initiative of Responsible Tourism Destination in Penedès territories (a Catalan region), with the involvement of 4 councils and 20 companies of various tourism sub-sectors under the leadership of the Foundation Pro Penedès.

7th International Conference on Responsible Tourism in Destinations

From 1st to 4th October the 7th International Conference on Responsible Tourism in Destinations will bring together over 300 professionals from international and intergovernmental organizations and national governments, as well as representatives of tourism and travel companies, to debate the challenges facing destinations seeking to achieve sustainable tourism. 

This is the first time this unique annual conference will be held in Europe, and its focus on the Mediterranean holds particular meaning owing to the magnitude, history and characteristics of tourism in this region.  The objective of these international conferences is to discuss how stakeholders in tourism can best deal with the issues that emerge around tourism activities taking place in particular destinations, with a focus on minimising the negative impacts on and maximising the benefits for local communities and their environment.

Parallel to the Conference the first Catalan Responsible Tourism Awards will be launched. These seek to recognize the best examples of organisations and individuals   and share good practices within the Catalan tourism industry. The Awards ceremony is in the evening of Friday 4th October.

·       The 7th International Conference on Responsible Tourism  in Destinations is co-chaired by Professor Harold Goodwin, an internationally renowned authority on Responsible Tourism, Professor of Responsible Tourism  Management at  Leeds Metropolitan University, and Director of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism ) and Jordi Ficapal, director of the Observatory for Responsible Tourism TSI-Tourism Sant Ignasi (Universitat Ramon Llull). The conference consists of an Academic Day, a Conference Field Trip, and a two-day Industry Conference.
